55 ~ Portal

Image
Thoughts of the lady in red did not escape me. She would always appear in my dreams as of late. She would just stand on the same vista unmoving.  Keeping the same facade, she would turn to face me and converse with me. But, I could not hear any word she would say. It was on one of those episodes of lucid dreaming when I was able to travel into one of those dimensions in this sentient multiverse we inhabit. I found myself following a lone flickering firefly. Who would have thought that chasing after something insignificant would bring along with it a much needed release from the baggage I continuously accumulate with each passing moment of my life as dreams are supposed to be windows of our hidden desires.  On that still night when no blade of leaf got stirred, that lone firefly met with one of his kind compounding the light they give off. The further I walked, the more fireflies congregated. The light they beamed became brighter and brighter. Before I realized, ...

54 ~ Lady in red

Image
I closed my eyes for a moment as I gathered strength from within. When I opened my eyes, dripping perspiration cloud my view. A silhouette of a woman clad in red is standing on top of a sand dune. With bowed head, her unkept hair riding a wave of a passing zypher.. a striking impression of an apparition at a dry spell of my life. I called out for her name. With the setting sun as her background, she just stood there motionless and silent. I called out to her again, but she dare not bother to reply.  I was a bit disheartened with her indifference. Mustering enough courage, I walked towards her. To my consternation, I could see her walk further away from me. The faster my strides, I see her slip further away. The moment I started to run, she was no longer in sight. The sun by then was about to set into the nether edges of the horizon. Whoever she might be, she left herself in me a memory in my heart.

53 ~ Desert wind

Image
There comes a period in one's life when one willingly allows himself to be subjected to the harsh elements. Be it an underlying need or the penchant of an accompanying adrenaline rush, he finds himself beyond the confines of his comfort zone. And when he does linger, the moment he wishes to return to the way things were... he is faced with a decision that comes with it a heavier weight and a much heftier price.  It is during those moments of doubt he encounters a desert wind, dry and sultry about to leave him famished and parched. Life is never easy. In my journey, there had been a lot of times when I found myself walking aimlessly in the midst of the desert sands. Without a sense of direction, subjected to the scorching heat, fierce winds and pounding rain, I just continued walking. Amidst the hustles and bustles of everyday life, seeing the monotone landscape devoid of green and watery blues day after day  takes a toll on the psyche. I just had to go. Alon...

52 ~ Chasm

Image
The rumblings of an angry spirit who has never seen the light of day since the beginning of time sent shockwaves to the island's surface. Imprisoned in the nether fiery reaches of the isle, its vestiges has been erased with the passing of time. Its despicable existence exemplified everything that is contrary to goodness, beauty and life.  Cast into its hellish confinements, the primordial gods ensured that it would remain there for the rest of eternity. But overtime, it has managed to thrive as it feeds on malice, hate and rancor. As darkness permeates, it grows in might and strength.  It is only a matter of time before his shackles will be undone..... As he awakes from his stupor, the ground shakes intermittently. What was once a mere gash on the earth became a deep chasm which is about to split the island of Sidlakan in two. Rising from the interstices, red-hot magma gushes out and along with it a poisonous mix of noxious gases escape killing anything in its p...

51 ~ tremors

Image
Something is stirring within the depths of the Fuyhn highlands... The earth began to shake. Minutes felt like an eternity to the distressed denizens of the cordilleras. Tree branches swayed arousing the aves and the chiropters from their stupor leading them to fly. The ground dwellers scramble out into the open. Ripples turned to small waves on a nearby passive stream. It is the first after a very long time since tremors jolted the isle of Sidlakan. From the cracks on the ground, water breaks free shooting jets in its wake.  There is a precursor of a series of events that are about to unravel and disturb the quasi sense of stability across the enchanted isle. Whatever it is that is causing the ground to shake must have been stirred by the seeds of darkness sown at the aftermath of the raging tempest. These intermittent rumblings would continue to persist changing the landscape  over time. As more and more cracks appear on the earth, this allowed ghastly mia...

50 ~ an aurae's call

Image
"You who can pacify the raging spirit of the Tempestad, hear my call. Must I wait for a thousand years or more, I will do so. For no one can soothe the restless heart of a spirit held captive except you." A gentle kiss was blown onto a passing wind carrying with it a message of longing and of hope. Whether that message will be relayed or simply fade away, a heart's earnest desire was cast into the open. Time can only tell if the message will be heard, if it reaches the heart of a man worthy enough to wield the power the stone holds. "Whoever you might be, you hold the keys to my heart. If my feelings reach you and if both our hearts resonate, I will swear unceasing fealty to you and shall grant you my undying love. Son of man, I shall patiently wait for your coming." Over time, the chamber on which the Tempestad rests lay hidden and forgotten. Alvae fell into a long and deep slumber. Holding the stone close to her heart, Alvae and the Tempestad ...

49 ~ the Tempestad

Image
From the maelstrom that was the Uracan, whatever was left of it coalesced into a blue luminous crystalline stone, the Tempestad. Carried out by the supreme master of the skies, Kaptan, the thick swirling mass of air surrounding the eye of the Uracan was fused into a single focal point. A very powerful memento, it holds the latent power to unleash another maelstrom when it falls upon the wrong hands. Sealed at the summit of Frohorq, Alvae became its custodian and with the aid of the Aurae, guard the Tempestad ensuring that it will never see the light of day and that its whereabouts be hidden until a time of great need will arise. And if it is prematurely unsealed, to control it and to harness its power. Analogous to the stone of the sun, only the righteous should be able to hold and wield the Tempestad. Anyone with a trace of evil shall be subdued, its existence effaced into nothingness. There will definitely come a time where it will be freed from its hidden confines. It...

48 ~ Alvae's Aria

Image
the day seems young take my hand bear with me together we'll ride this gentle breeze i spawn rouse from your dreams awaken from your sleep rise and behold for beauty shall emerge from this land grown cold listen to the melody my beating heart creates hear its soulful song immerse in the nostalgia of the memories we used to hold dance to the rhythm come alive to the sounds feel my enduring love and witness the splendour of this burgeoning isle that is about to be reborn

47 ~ Rebirth

Image
The devastation is beyond compare... Amandiwin was stripped bare of its greenery. Patches of land lay exposed to the elements when it was once shrouded by trees. Grasses were swept away by the cascading waters. The rivers, streams and other water tributaries had been drastically altered by the raging torrents of water accompanied by rocks, soil and other debris. What was left of the forest is a vast stretch of glabrous trees majority of which had been toppled down to the ground.Stench of decaying matter fills the sullen isle. There were only shades of orange, brown and gray. The seeds of darkness take hold. But life does persist. Whatever was left of the maelstrom seems stubborn enough to survive and ultimately thrive. From death, new life takes root until it eventually blooms. The cycle of life continues... As the ancient Viradjan decays, its remains nourish the earth on which it once stood. Years came to pass and not one single plant grew on its grounds until tha...

46 ~ the calm after the storm

Image
As the first streaks of light break through the overcast sky, the sound of silence pervades. The foreboding sense of apprehension is lifted replaced a feeling of relief. Trials only last for a moment. They won't linger. Pain and misery will  always come to pass.  A lone white dove takes off from its hiding place. Unharmed, it flies high in the sky. There is hope. There will be rebirth.  All that grows from the earth will take root, sprout and take a new leash on life. They will rise from the devastation, thrive and spread out. A new generation will succeed those that were lost. Sidlakan will flourish once more as do the forest of Amandiwin and its denizens.  With the aid of the elementals, regeneration will happen at a hastened pace. In a few months, life will take root and everything will be restored from what it was once. This is how things are supposed to be. But this will not happen this time around after Viradjan was toppled down by the Ur...

45 ~ Timog

Image
Summoned from his southern domains, the god of the south wind Timog rode the austral jetsream towards the northwestern Pacific. But given the long distance, he arrived too late. Sidlakan has become a mere shadow of its former self.  To assuage the warring Habagat and Dumagsa, Timog unleashed a forceful jetstream to counter the swirling mass of the Uracan. Silencing the tempest, the jetstream tore the topmost layers covering the eye. When the Uracan can no longer harness fuel from the warm waters it traversed, the intense eyewall started to break down. Gradually, it started to weaken. Aided by a chilling gust from the north, the tempest sobered.  In the midst of the warring Habagat and Dumagsa, Timog motioned the two gods to break free from their ire and to rein in cooler heads. "Enough!"Shouted the god of the southerlies. "Look at what you have done. There is so much destruction and irreparable damage. Your selfishness and disdain for each other ma...

44 ~ the eye of the storm

Image
The constant battery of the tempest seems unending. No words can describe the hopelessness it evokes in the hearts of those who will live to tell the tale. Being subjected to the harshest of elements, the wrath of nature gone wrong. No one is safe.  Aged trees topple down. Some still stand but are stripped bare to their tree trunks. The ferocious winds twist and uproot. The face of the mountains are ravished as a result rock and landslides. But it seems that the worst is not yet over, as the eye of the Uracan is still in open waters. As soon as its eye made landfall, hell broke lose.  Debris fly and are scattered about. Out in the open, amidst the darkness there seems no escape. Many will perish, only a few of those that remained will live. But the elementals have an ace up their sleeve, gifted with intangibility they will live on. As the eye passes over the isle, its denizens were given a short respite. A star peeked through the clouds. Moonlight filled the land. T...

43 ~ Onslaught...

Image
The onslaught of the Uracan came during the night. Without a moon or stars in sight, everything was pitch black. Compounding the darkness is the unsettling feeling of dread and helplessness which is about to consume the hearts and psyche of those who will live through the ordeal.  Initially, there was precarious lull followed by a long  spectacular display of lightning and blinding rain signalling the arrival of the Uracan which stirred the various aves and chiropters from their slumber in search of a safe refuge. Those who did not manage to escape through the portal are bound to experience hours of extreme uncertainty on whether they will survive and live to tell their story or face a gruesome death. In the midst of the tempest, nothing is safe. The portal has shut its doors as the elder elementals of Sidlakan spent their last remaining ounce of energy leaving them at the disposal of the elements. There is a pervading sense of dread as the smell of sea aerosols fil...

42 ~ the Uracan

Image
There is bound to be trouble when the god of the easterlies - Dumagsa and the southwesterly winds -  Habagat meet up. Their primordial disdain for each other result to a proud fearsome battle as they assert their supremacy over the other.  They feed off their anger from the warm waters of the seas as tempers flare out until it reaches in a tipping point. Engaged in a tug of war, they find themselves in a deathly spiral, the Uracan. Unmindful of the eventual repercussions of their selfish act, drawing their latent strength from the heat of their confrontation while measuring each other's weaknesses, the scale and intensity of their open hostilities grow in size and ferocity until it becomes a monster of its own. Developing a distinct personality over its entire lifespan, the Uracan is never kind. Anything that lays on its path is bound to experience some sort of inferno with varying levels of torment. But for sure, there will be destruction, death and despair in ...

41 ~ Refuge

Image
There is no room for complacency. As the island hunkers down for the Uracan, the elder elementals have agreed to open the portal to Ophiroth. The creatures of Sidlakan will be given a safe refuge in the parallel world. They have done this in the past and they will do so time and time again. In the face of imminent danger, safety mechanisms have been prepared. Some creatures the world believe as extinct are in actuality alive and surviving. This is all thanks to a few elementals who manage to keep things in perspective and the gateway that has served as a leash on life when the island is faced with an impending doom. Opening the gateway is by no means a simple feat. Aether will be consumed. It is one thing the elementals can wield where man cannot. It is the life essence of every ethereal being, spirit or elemental alike. Alvae took out her syrinx then began to play. Soft notes fill the air with a soulful melody. Every mobile creature whether large or small, intelligible or n...

40 ~ an approaching tempest

Image
An august Gyrfalcon rests on the highest branch of Viradjan. Her superb eyesight provides a clear view of the forest. From a distance, she could see from her vantage point that something is amiss as strange dark clouds loom in the distant horizon.  Preparing to take flight, she opened her wings bringing into full view her impeccable black and white plumage. As soon as she was airborne, she immediately went to check the peculiar clouds. She allowed herself to be carried by the air current. But as she got closer and closer, she found herself battling a stream of turbulent wind. Now that the temperate Alunsina has gone, the isle of Sidlakan will now be at the mercy of the Anemoi who fight for supremacy during their chance encounters bringing destruction and death to anything that obstructs its path. This fearsome battles are known as the Uracan, Sensing that a Uracan is just beyond the horizon, the Gyrfalcon flew back to warn the denizens of Sidlakan. Frantic calls were...

39 ~ Alunsina

Image
A leaf falls from its tree. But instead of falling to the earth, it is gently picked up by a passing gust. Rolling with the wind, it flew to greater heights nearly reaching the clouds. It rode with the breath of the forest until it finally settled on a crack at the face of Frohorq Summit.... From the tree where it sprouted and served its purpose, blown by the wind and landing at a high pedestal overlooking Sidlakan, there it is going to meet its ultimate fate in a place so close to the sky it is just one step away from heaven. Alunsina, a wind goddess of the Northeast chanced upon the lone leaf and decided to impart the breath of life into it. With a touch of her hand, the leaf fell to pieces leaving only its essence behind. That essence gleamed against the setting sun as it it is in glee then it took wings becoming a translucent falcon perched on Alunsina's arm. With a wave of her hand and as if it was given a standing order, the translucent falcon took flight into the sky. ...

38 ~ Sidlakan...

Image
Sidlakan... An obscure island in the western Pacific which is the first to greet the sun as it rises from the edges of the watery horizon. Untainted by man, it has retained its virginal megacosm since time immemorial. Often battered by fiery tempests as it sits in the middle of the path of strong storms, no human community has managed to thrive in this famed forsaken island. The physical challenges, its remoteness and the absence of a thriving human community has made this island an ideal abode of nature spirits. Undisturbed, earth and water spirits flourish harmoniusly together with the island's flora and fauna. The gateway to a parallel world of Ophiroth, Viradjan is an ancient forest dweller hidden from view in the thick and lush Amadiwin Cordillera. The commanding presence of its highest peak Frohorq Summit, the rolling Struymn Hills, the wide open spaces of the Yves fields, the river Xindian and its various other landscapes don't appear in maps. These a...

37 ~ hope...

Image
There is chaos that is brewing.... Paradigm shifts brought about by the increasing presence of the dark elements in the enchanted forest of Amandiwin test the fragile balance between good and evil in this land. All is bound to be well unless the scales tip in favor of the dark side. This will spell doom for its unknowing denizens. There will be hunger, death and despair. Insignificant yet incessant grumblings of the earth are being felt by the elementals. There had been discussions among the learned few. Many could feel an approaching doom. Some look at the movements of the stars, the subtle changes in the movement of the earth and the growing number of shades, wisps and spirits with vile and malicious intents...The forest of Amandiwin is gradually being infringed upon. During these times of uncertainty, somebody must head to Ophiroth through Viradjan to vanquish whatever needs to be stopped before evil spills over to this parallel world and claim the innocent. Amandiwin...

36 ~ Jagen...

Image
I could feel my heart beat faster. With the slightest of touch, my insides seem to react as if there is electricity pulsating within. I could hear my blood running through my veins. And when I looked at the his eyes, I could sense that he is also in awe. He the extended his hand further to my palm allowing me to feel his warmth. I put my other palm on top of his paw caressing his soft fur. He whimpered in approval. Looking at his gleaming eyes, I could see another soul speak to mine. And for a moment, our consciousness seem to have merged. In silence, we were able to speak from the heart. A tingling sensation on where the sunstone touched my skin gradually becoming warmer emitting an incandescent glow which is growing brighter by the minute.  He put his other paw on my lap. His eyes now cast the same glow as the stone on my chest  intently gazing against mine, He moved ever closer. I reached out my right hand to pat his head. He grunted and I smiled.  Then ...

35 ~ Reunited?

Image
A stage has been set for the meeting of two kindred souls. One of whom is in search for a way back to his love while the other is bound to preserve and guide the latter. As the wisps had been led away, the once overcast sky also cleared up. Pockets of light from the shimmering distant stars replace the clouds that are slowly being effaced into the background. There in all its splendor, the river of heaven, the Milky Way came into full view. The sound of rustling twigs and branches from the nearby shrubbery awoke me from the semi-trance like state I was in. I looked down and to my consternation, I was about to slip into the edge of a very deep cliff. "The wisps do really live up to their reputation", I muttered to myself. I walked back onto the confines of safety. The skirmishes continued. I could surmise that something or someone is looking at me. I turned around. Hidden in the bushes, a speck of light got reflected in the creature's eyes. I knelt down on one...

34 ~ a name...

Image
Before life, there was nothingness. We were just freely floating in the midst of oblivion wandering aimlessly.  Life happened and so our existence came to be. We were given an identity, a name that will define the life we are going to lead, a name which will ultimately lead us to our fate. Wherever we may be, the name that will define us is going to lead us to that special entity who will hold a significant part in our life  and shed light to the very purpose of our existence... a soulmate Insignificant we may perceive the existence of other living beings, the power they hold cannot be undervalued for they may hold the key to our life's rebirth or eventual demise. The orphaned creature of the woods will continue to live his life until such time when a name will be bestowed upon him. On that day, a path will open up. He is bound to tread it for it will give direction to his life. He will never be alone anymore. He will become synonymous with the one who chris...
