24 ~ Wil'-o-wisp...

Oblivious at first glance, specks of light flicker in the distance. I took no notice and simply dismissed what I saw. But as it hovered closer and closer, its luminosity grew in magnitude. What seems insignificant seems like an undeniable existence of some sort whether corporeal or supernatural I cannot understand.

It flew in circles. Unstable as it moved around. It illuminated the darkness in the absence of the twinkling stars. It has an uncanny whimsical nature to whatever it is that fluttered about. There is light, yet it seems there is a hint of darkness to it. Unsettling as the atmosphere changed into something resplendent. It compounds more with whatever emotional load I had deep inside.

When it alighted directly in front of me, my eyes seem transfixed to it. Like it's telling me to follow suit and just be simply led astray in this far off foreign land. There is a hint of bewitching assurance as I willingly allowed myself to follow it deep into the darkness. The wisp seems like a guiding hand drawing me to dreamland as I imperceptibly leave my consciousness behind.

This tiny light I thought would lead me to a paradise of flower gardens and more tiny flickering lights of fireflies on which it should abound.

"You will be alright. Follow me deep into the dark forest. I shall lead you with my tiny light. I will lead you home as we follow the path into the night. Listen to my whispers and my sullen calls. Walk through the woods and turn your resolve into sad realities and be led astray forever..."

Footstep by footstep, I walked through the darkness. Through unseen footpaths, I got drawn by this somber yet alluring presence. I was no longer myself, but I could surmise that a part of me resonated with the wisp.

A wisp who lingered in this world due to a loss when it was once a denizen of this world now echoed with that empty unfilled space in my heart...

"Come dear mortal and turn yourself into fodder for the feast the fiends are surely bound to haunt..."
