12 ~ the wielder of the stone
In bursts of lights of their own, the spent Naiads shattered themselves into pieces. The sight tugged my heart with sadness and grief as their lead somehow seemed resigned to their fate.
"Their sacrifice was not in vain," the remaining Naiad tearfully exclaimed. "Nothing is permanent in this world. Everything will come to pass and our very own selves will one day be taken away by that which has given us life. And will one day turn to spirits, the essence of Ophir."
She turned her back, then faced and walked towards me as she bent one knee as if extolling me.
"Wielder of the sacred stone, Avryl of the Encanti," she said while looking at the ground.
"I do not understand, Avryl. I am no keeper of the stone. I was just led here to this place without my full knowledge. There are a lot of things I do not understand. I am hoping you could shed some light."
"No, It is you I must serve and protect. I am your guardian. We of the Encanti risk our lives for the wielder of the sacred stone." She said as she slowly lifted up her head. "Take it out and hold it against the sun, you have it with you."
I remembered the glowing stone I picked up earlier during the chaos that ensued. To my bewilderment, it glowed still and as rays of light pierce through the clouds, the stone lit up and what I saw was beyond beautiful, the sky and the sun.
In all splendour, it reflected the light of the sun banishing the clouds in the sky... bathing everything in divine light. The waters calmed down. The aves returned. Whatever is left of the vegetation basked in the light. Avryl ceased from tearing up. Her demeanor changed and gradually her crystalline features receded as she turned into a beautiful young white haired maiden clad in metallic armour with striking green eyes, she looked at me and smiled for the first time.
"Only you can hold the stone of the sun. Salvation is finally at hand."
Chase gave a long mesmerizing howl into the dusk as the setting sun enflaming the sky in warm golden light.
