Desert...

“As Engineers, we build and create; we try to make sense of things, we manage and plan, we struggle to achieve good results, we troubleshoot, we lead… In order to do these things, we need knowledge and skills. “

The stench of petroleum in the stale air brings into mind memories of my stay in the job site.

A good friend once told me that every young Engineer should aspire to work in the Middle East to gain the relevant experience and skills to become successful in the profession. A rite of passage for a novice Engineer to become a real Engineer.

It was truly an astounding experience, but an experience I would probably steer clear of. To a fair extent, I lived like a daredevil… but, the challenge was just too much for me to handle at the time… I was only half-alive.

I became exposed to a world where disagreements occur almost on a daily basis. Problems arising here and there. As the most technical person in the field, I troubleshoot. I had to become tenacious, since I need to deal with insolence from the various personalities that I had to deal with. I needed to become more knowledgeable... I had to act like I am in control...

At the end of the day, it seemed like all my strength escaped from me.

But. I know that I have become tougher… and more capable of being an Engineer...
