13 ~ Avryl

Image
Avryl is the epitome of beauty. Despite her grim appearance, her beauty still radiates I could feel my heart skip a beat. Her delicate looks would make any man swoon and swear to protect with all his might.  I extended my hand urging her to rise which she obliged. Her face was still wet with the teardrops she earlier shed. I wiped her cheeks with my other hand which she then held to her chest.  Everything is bound to be all right. I reassured her as I turned her face closer to mine allowing me to glimpse of the metallic silvery eyes. I caught sight of her luscious red lips I was yearning to touch, but instead ushered her head to rest on my shoulder letting her find solace in my embrace. In that moment in time, as her heart resonated with mine she burst into tears. I could offer her nothing except my sympathy hoping she could find strength in me with her great loss. They might have been her friends, her sisters or her mother, that which I do not know. In her ...

12 ~ the wielder of the stone

Image
In bursts of lights of their own, the spent Naiads shattered themselves into pieces. The sight tugged my heart with sadness and grief as their lead somehow seemed resigned to their fate.  "Their sacrifice was not in vain," the remaining Naiad tearfully exclaimed. "Nothing is permanent in this world. Everything will come to pass and our very own selves will one day be taken away by that which has given us life. And will one day turn to spirits, the essence of Ophir." She turned her back, then faced and walked towards me as she bent one knee as if extolling me. "Wielder of the sacred stone, Avryl of the Encanti," she said while looking at the ground.  "I do not understand, Avryl. I am no keeper of the stone. I was just led here to this place without my full knowledge. There are a lot of things I do not understand. I am hoping you could shed some light." "No, It is you I must serve and protect. I am your guardian. We of t...

dream

Image
I was a little boy Alone in my little world  Who dreamed of a little home for me. I played pretend between the trees, And fed my houseguests bark and leaves, And laughed in my pretty bed of green. I had a dream That I could fly From the highest swing. I had a dream. Long walks in the dark Through woods grown behind the park, I asked God who I'm supposed to be. The stars smiled down on me, God answered in silent reverie. I said a prayer and fell asleep. I had a dream That I could fly From the highest tree. I had a dream. Now I'm old and feeling grey. I don't know what's left to say About this life I'm willing to leave. I lived it full and I lived it well, There's many tales I've lived to tell. I'm ready now, I'm ready now, I'm ready now To fly from the highest wing. I had a dream. ~ Priscilla Ahn (Photo courtesy of https://3sir.net)

11 ~ a bittersweet victory...

Image
A temptestuous battle arose between the naiads and the bakunawa. As flashes of light and squalls are intermittently exchanged on both sides. Plumes of clouds appear in its wake. The atmosphere is electrifying as the hairs on exposed parts stand on its end reacting to the intense and heavy air. Bakkun's push forward seems thwarted by the Naiads as energized particles strike Bakkun who is now curling and coiling in distress. There was an instance when the Naiads grew weary, the intensity of their blast waning but they refused to budge seeing the destruction brought upon the once virginal vista. As they were able to contain Bakkun, slowly they focused their assault on one focal point. Their lead tried to rouse everyone for one final push. One by one, cracks in their crystalline bodies appear, strained until two of them shrieked in agony subsequently exploding then scattered  like glass pieces. But their sacrifice seems not to be in vain as Bakkun finally retreated into the ...

10 ~ the wards of the leviathan

Two words best describe me, fearless and foolish.... Looking at the situation, with a brewing demise at hand there is nothing to lose. If I die, I die with grace. With no more room to go about, I urged Chase to halt and the both of us to face the serpentine dragon. I could see the gleam in his eyes, but I did not waver in my resolution. So brief and fleeting is my sojourn in this otherworldly Ophir. I closed my eyes as I breathed my last gasp of air. At the back of my mind, I urged a call for help hoping that it will transcend to anyone who is a match of the Bakunawa. I don't want my life and my story to end just yet. Somebody... Please... I could feel death about to clench me at his grasp when I heard a resounding blast from where we stood. And I thought that was the end of my life... But when I opened my eyes, I was stunned and beyond any words relieved.  In a striking entrance, crystalline entities begin to rise from the ground to take the shape of diaphanous naiads. C...

09 ~ the realization....

The whiskered Bakkun peeked below the clouds selectively looking at his next target. On the far side of the lake is a dense forest. Wherever he goes, strong gusts head toward the same direction and with his thunderous roar, nothing would stand thereafter. The trees don't stand a chance at life and were totally wiped out. Such ruthless ferocity from an untamed creature who somehow escaped from the clutches of a fathomless abyss from which it was incarcerated for a long time. But then, a huge intense bolt of lightning pierced through the sky hitting the primordial dragon on its side. A cry escaped from the Bakunawa reverberating in shockwaves clearing the clouds it blew into allowing light to pierce through illuminating the turbulent waters.  In retaliation, Bakkun sent a flurry of whirlwinds in every direction, aimlessly knocking whatever they come into contact with.  Everything is about to break loose and there is nothing that can be done except to escape the impendin...
